Rose Hill has hired Special Education teacher, T’Allyn Smith, to take over the girls basketball program. Smith will also become a full time Special Education teacher at the high school.
“For me to become a head coach at this point in my coaching career means everything to me,” Smith said. “For me to become the new coach at a school where people inside the building are excited for me is a blessing. To answer your question, I am proud, excited and ready to do all that I can for the girls here at the school and the community of Rose Hill.”
Smith previously was an assistant coach at Campus and has worked at Rose Hill Middle School for three years before transferring to the high school.
“I am most appreciative that I have been accepted by everyone that I have worked with during my four years in Rose Hill,” Smith said. “I’ve had so much love and support from my colleagues, I couldn’t say thank you enough. Also, working in a small town such as this has given me a new perspective on how others live.”
Smith is passionate when teaching all of his students and values the relationships between them.
“The most rewarding thing about working in Special Education is being able to educate others about how our kids aren’t different from their peers. Our kids are just as capable of doing what anybody else that is walking this Earth is capable of doing,” Smith said. “I also love being an advocate for them and helping them learn to advocate for themselves as they grow older. I love my students and they know it. Relationships mean everything to me and I am grateful that I get to spend every day with them.”
