Every school year 25 students have the opportunity to earn the Rudd Foundation Scholarship which is a full ride scholarship to either Fort Hays State, Kansas State, Wichita State, or Emporia State Universities.
In the past four years, three Rose Hill students have won this award. This year senior Keegan Taylor was awarded the scholarship.
Taylor was surprised with the award Thursday, March 21. Taylor will be using the scholarship to attend Kansas State University and major in Industrial Engineering.
“The first application was due in December before they let us know at the beginning of January,” Taylor stated. “That’s when they actually told me before they called me back right before the final interview that they would like me to come in.”
Taylor said he first heard about the scholarship from former Rose Hill student Gary Tran, who won the award back in 2022. Taylor revealed he started working on writing the essays for the scholarship after Tran won.
“The advice he (Tran) gave me was, be yourself, don’t try to be a character and act the way they would want you too,” Taylor stated. “Just be who you are.”
