Jessica Starnes was recently hired as the second School Resource Officer for the Rose Hill school district. Starnes started her career at the Haysville Police Department and then became an officer with the Haysville Animal Control in 2016.
Starnes fell in love with working with animals and wanted to make more of a difference so she became an officer in 2017. After her training to become an officer, she wanted to work with schools, so Starnes started training to become a school resource officer just six years ago.
“I have officially been a school resource officer since 2018 and have enjoyed every moment of it,” said Starnes.
Starnes says that the Rose Hill community drew her to the school district. She grew up in a population of 600, and it always made a difference. Starnes’ family moved to Rose Hill a few years ago and everyone in the community has been very supportive and welcoming.
In just the short time she’s been working for Rose Hill, Starnes is already feeling welcome and is fitting in.
“Everyone has been very welcoming and friendly,” Starnes said. “All the staff and students have been very friendly and encouraging.”
