Cherith Mock is in her first year teaching at Rose Hill High School, as she took over for Chase Owens who got a new teaching position.
Mock started her teaching career at Derby Middle School but moved to Derby Intermediate School in 2007 and started teaching fifth grade. She then came to Rose Hill and has been teaching fifth grade since 2017. As she has moved from the Intermediate School to High School she’s gone from teaching all subjects to just Science, this could be a big change but she is ready for this challenge.
“It has been a big transition but I was up for the challenge. I have really enjoyed seeing my former students in the halls and even having lots of them in class again,” said Mock. “I love the schedule differences between elementary and high school. I also really like being able to focus on one or two subjects instead of teaching all subjects.”
Mock is head varsity volleyball coach, she enjoys being in the same building as the girls on her team and the athletic director. It helps make the season better and runs smoother when she can just walk to the office and have her players come to her if they need something.
“Like I said earlier, I was ready for a change, and I have always wanted to teach in the building where I coach,” Mock said. “It makes the season so much better to be in the building with the girls if they need something during the day, or if I need to work with my admin on something volleyball related.”
As a volleyball coach that was down in another building, Mock had to work hard to start practices on time and build good relationships with her players. But now that she is in the same building she can start practices earlier and visit with the girls in the hall.
“I have loved being able to start practice earlier because my end of day is now the same as my players,” said Mock. “I also enjoy seeing the girls in the halls every day. They have been able to come and talk to me in between classes and I feel like it has already made a difference in some relationships.”
