The annual November elections were held Tuesday night, with four USD 394 Board of Education spots up for vote. After the ballots were counted, Tom Heumann, Rhonda Crosby, Quentin Nusz, and David Turner were voted in by the City of Rose Hill.
Crosby received the most votes with 586, which was 15 percent of the overall votes. Crosby is ready to put her all into serving the district.
“Thank you, Rose Hill, for electing me to the school board,” Crosby said. “I am honored and excited to serve our district and work together to enhance the education experience for all students. Together, we will strive for excellence in our schools.”
Nusz had the second most votes with 530, which was 14 percent of the overall vote. Nusz is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the schools.
“I want to say thanks for all who voted for me,” Nusz said. “Working together we can make our school the best it can be.”
With 506 votes, Heumann had 13 percent of the overall vote. Heumann is looking forward to taking the next steps for the district.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with the BOE and Chuck Lambert to help drive our district forward,” Heumann said.
Turner slide into the last open position with 12 percent of the overall vote and 469 votes. Turner is excited for the new changes and is ready to get to work.
“I am grateful to all the residents in the district that voted for me in this election,” Turner said. “I cannot remember a time when we had so many candidates running and I know every vote mattered. This is an exciting time for the district with a new superintendent, principals, and now several new board members who want to enact positive changes that will not only benefit students but the teachers and staff as well.”
Jennifer Jackson, who was seeking reeclection, was eight votes behind Turner for the last spot. Jackson had 461 votes, which was 12 percent of the overall vote.
“Thank you to everyone who voted,” Jackson said. “I want to wish the new board members all the best as they serve our amazing district.”
Gale Wehling had 435 votes, which was 11 percent of the overall vote.
“I truly wish the best for the new school board moving forward believing that it’s all about making good things happen for the students,” Wehling said. “With a great, new superintendent teamed with the new board, a great future will unfold.”
Eva Smith had 383 votes, which was 10 percent of the overall vote. Even with the end results, Smith is ready to move on and continue to support Rose Hill Schools.
“Today is a new day, Smith said. “Rose Hill has spoken.”
Zain Labidi had nine percent of the overall vote, and had exactly 339 votes. Labidi was honored to get to run for the Board of Education.
“I may have fallen short but it was an honor to receive the support and kind words from our staff and community throughout this community,” Labidi said.
The four newly elected board members will start their term in January.
