This is Me: Koby Campbell

I love sports. Most people who have been around me know that. To be honest people who don’t even really know me know that I love almost all sports and have a passion for them all. Basketball is something that I focus on and work on every single day. In fact I would bet that I spend more time on basketball than any other activity in my life. I have the chance to do something special and play at a high level and that has always been my dream and I will undoubtedly continue to work towards my dream of playing it at the highest level possible.

However this summer something happened and someone had a light bulb go off in my head. What they said was really simple, in fact I don’t know why I don’t think about or haven’t thought about it up into this part of my life. What they brought to my attention is this. Someday the ball will stop bouncing. Someday playing basketball just isn’t going to be it for me. That time could be years down the road or it could tomorrow. We just don’t know when that time will come. But through their own experiences, they told me I need to be ready. This is coming from someone who played basketball professionally, saying I need to be ready for when I can’t play.

They told me, yeah, you’re good at basketball, but what’s your purpose? Answer was pretty easy to me. I’m here to play basketball. They repeated themselves. They said no, what is YOUR purpose. “What are you here to do in life Koby?”

I took that and thought about. There is more to me and more to this life then just playing basketball. I believe in Jesus, so I always believed in him and am thankful for the sacrifices he made for me. But what can I do for others? I can make a difference for sure. Through basketball? Maybe, maybe not. I’m not sure yet. All I know is my main purpose being put on this planet was not to play basketball. I’m here to make a positive impact on other people’s life. Making them smile, making them laugh. Something like that. I know that I’m not going to know 100% what my purpose is yet, but I’m slowly finding out.

I think this is something most people lack to think about. Luckily I found out through someone who has been through the experience I am and helped me.

So if you’re reading this, I challenge you to spend time by yourself, think about your life, your values, what you bring to the table that can impact other people’s lives in a positive way. Do it at least maybe a few times a week. Think about why you might really be here, and then it’s simple. Take action, and make your mark on the world.
