Football coach and elementary PE teacher Reese Petty will make the transition to the high school weights and PE position next year.
“I’m feeling good about it. I have enjoyed my time teaching PE at the elementary school, but this will be a good thing too,” Petty said.
Petty wants his football players to be in weights all year because of all the benefits that can come along with being consistent. Many benefits like the improvement of health and strength and prevention of injury are something that Petty strives for with each of his athletes.
“We want all football players to be in a weights class all year long. The consistency of being in the weight room throughout the year will allow them to continue to improve their strength, athleticism, and conditioning,” said Petty. “The weights classes will also help with injury prevention, injury maintenance after an injury, mental toughness, discipline, and many other intangibles.”
Having multiple coaches in the same building as their athletes and having them in their classrooms each day allows for the players to be supported and for the entire school to have a stronger culture that builds everyone up.
“This will be really good. It will allow us as a football coaching staff to help support and drive a strong culture at Rose Hill High School. The more football coaches we can get into the building as teachers the better, “ said Petty.
The many upgrades a new weight room will bring are inspiring for coaches and athletes to want to give their best on and off the field.
“I’m really excited about it. Having more space and new equipment will be a nice upgrade from the current weight room. It will allow us to do some things more efficiently and effectively,” said Petty. “Hoping it boosts motivation for more students to take a weights class.”
