Every year Rose Hill High School hosts at least one foreign exchange student and this year that student is Adriana Rios Claros, who is from Bolivia.
“I think it’s super cool, especially because you choose what subjects to take,” said Rios Claros, on what she likes about Rose Hill.
Rios Claros said there are many classes that she chose that aren’t an option at schools in her home country, such as weights, cooking, art, team sports, and many others.
In Rose Hill some classes, like team sports, are filled with kids in different grades.
“(I like) that there are sports seasons because of the supportive environment that is created among the team,” said Rios Claros.
She has learned about these bonds that sports create because since coming to Rose Hill she joined the girls basketball team.
“I think it was the best thing that happened to me, because before basketball I didn’t do anything, I was bored at home, but now I train and I like the part of being a team,” said Rios Claros.
Rios Claros explained that there are some differences between America and Bolivia but the biggest one being that here in America you can burp and no one says anything or they laugh with you, but in Bolivia that is bad behavior.
Being away from home can be hard, Rios Claros expressed, but especially during the holidays.
“For Christmas and New Years Eve, I missed my family a lot because it was super different,” said Rios Claros.
