Rose Hill High School assistant principal Greg Welch has been promoted to principal for the 2026-2027 school year.
Welch has been a part of the USD 394 district for 11 years and has made a huge impact being a part of our district.
“I think it’s always been a professional goal of mine, just to be a principal,” said Welch.
The interview process was very thorough in the sense 24 people applied for the job but only five received an interview.
Those five interviews lasted all day with each one being about an hour long. Each candidate was asked 60 questions. Although some candidates had more to say than others, so they didn’t get to all the questions.
“Mr. Welch was the overwhelming choice for that (best candidate for the job),” said Matt Browning, who was on the interview committee.
Welch’s biggest challenge for the next school year will be the loss of corporate knowledge. Many staff members have retired in the past couple of years. Welch will be the final decision maker and will be put in difficult situations, but he is up for the challenge.
“You have to own those decisions and do what you think is best for the school,” said Welch.
To prepare for the upcoming school year Welch plans to attend many different meetings with numerous staff members.
“I’m most excited to just continue to build the culture in our building,” said Welch.
